NWAC West Region Coach of the Year: 2024-25 (Assistant Coach)
Michael Wade enters his sixth season as an assistant coach with the South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) Men’s Basketball program in 2025-26, and his 14th season overall as a collegiate assistant coach.
Wade brings a wealth of experience across multiple levels of basketball, including successful stops at the high school, junior college, and NCAA Division II levels. His coaching journey began at Lummi Nation School, where he led both boys and girls programs to district titles and state tournament appearances. Wade also spent time with the Northwest Indian College women’s program before joining the staff at Western Washington University, where the Vikings made back-to-back GNAC Tournament appearances.
Prior to arriving at SPSCC, Wade served five seasons at Whatcom Community College as Associate Head Coach, helping guide the Orcas to four NWAC Tournament appearances, including a runner-up finish in 2015-16.
Since joining the Clippers in 2020, Wade has played an integral role in the program’s rise under Head Coach Zach Smith. The Clippers have reached the NWAC Tournament in three consecutive seasons, captured a share of the 2024-25 West Region title, and advanced to the NWAC Final Four while Smith earned West Region Coach of the Year honors.
Off the court, Wade has been instrumental in supporting the program’s academic success. Under the current coaching staff, SPSCC Men’s Basketball has earned a 3.2 or higher team GPA in all nine academic terms, a testament to the program’s commitment to excellence both on and off the court.
