SPSCC's Men's Soccer Team needed a positive result to wash away the memories of last week, and did they ever get that result with a big 6-2 win against Centralia.
The Clippers were locked in from kickoff as they were out to prove that they are better than the performances of last week. From the go, the Clips were all in on attack and Sophomore Midfielder Djibril Corrielus got the party started in the 33rd minute with a goal to give SPSCC the early lead. Two more goals, one from Alex Canning and Alejandro De La Rosa, gave the lads a sizeable lead going into the half.
Head Coach Max Sampson must have told the lads to keep the pedal to the medal, as a Corrielus goal in the 48th minute kept the attacking flow going early in the second half. Another goal by Canning in the 52nd and a 77th minute goal from Centralia native Cristian Luis solidified the lead and put a cap on what was an outstanding performance from the team.
A notable tactic switch that Coach Sampson employed was moving Corrielus from his usual home in the defensive midfield to the number 10 position, joining Canning in attack. This move paid big dividends for the Clippers as five out of the six goals against Centralia were scored or assisted by Canning and Corrielus.
"Normally, I play in the 6, but Coach Max saw something in me that he liked and told me I had to move to the 10," said Sophomore Midfielder/Forward Djibril Corrielus. "It has helped that the team passes to me a lot and it has helped me score a lot."
The Clippers look to continue this run of play next week as they welcome Pierce to the RAC for a Wednesday, October 1 matchup before heading up to Tacoma for a game on Saturday, October 4.
